Bicycling Activity Group Policy
Wisconsin Hoofer Outing Club
revised November 1994
- This policy has been established in a manner outlined in Section 2.10 of the Outing Club Bylaws on 5 July 1994, and presented to the Executive Board on 1 November 1994. This Policy may be amended by the Bicycling Activity Group, and will become binding upon presentation to the Executive Board.
- Traffic laws need to be observed on all road bicycling trips. Trip leaders should make other riders aware of violations in the interest of safety. Mountain biking trips similarly are subject to rules posted where the rides occur (parks, etc.).
- Responsible riding by all members is encouraged by the club. Furthermore, the club asks that all members remain on posted trails for off-road trips unless express permission has been obtained from landowners or park officials while on club trips.
- Club bicycles are available for all official club trips. Members may sign out bicycles, racks, helmets, panniers, car racks, and other bicycling supplies owned by the club from the bicycling chairpersons. Members must record their name and destination on sign-out sheets; any defects in club equipment should also be recorded to limit member's liability.
- Bicycling equipment shall be returned in equal or better condition; any damage done to the equipment should be fixed by members who used it or serviced and paid for by those members. The club will provide any necessary parts for repairs to club equipment. Club equipment will be returned within a reasonable amount of time to allow other members an opportunity to use it. The bicycling chairpersons will enforce this policy.
- Helmet use for both on- and off-road riding on Hoofer biking trips is officially encouraged by the club. All riders must wear helmets when riding on club bicycles.
- First aid kits should be carried for trips over 50 miles in length except for organized bicycle rides/races with help available throughout the course.
