Family Policy
Wisconsin Hoofer Outing Club
revised April 95
- This Policy has been established in a manner outlined in Section 2.11 of the Outing Club Bylaws on 5 July 94, and presented to the Executive Board on 1 November 94. This Policy may be amended by the Trip Leader Coordinator, and will become binding upon presentation to, and approval by, the Executive Board.
- "Child of an Outing Club member" refers to any person who is not a student of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, is under the age of 18 years, and who is under the custody of a member, including: natural child, adopted child, step-child not legally adopted but living with the member, foster child, or other child who is living with a member. Members also may act as parents for their siblings, and other minor family members.
- Accompaniment of a child of a member with their member parent on any Club trip is permitted, provided the following qualifications are met: (a) the parent is qualified to participate, (b) the child is qualified to participate, (c) permission of the trip leader (river leader in the case of a river trip) is secured.
- Instructions and test-taking to qualify a child of an Outing Club member for Club activities is subject to the approval of the instructor for the activity and the Chairperson of the Water Safety Board in the case of water related instruction or the Club President in the case of any other instruction. The names of the children who have passed the tests will be noted on the parent's card.
- Club equipment needed to meet the requirements of a family taking part in a Club activity may be signed out by a parent. A child of a member may not use Club equipment unless with a member parent.
- Responsibility for member's child taking part in Club activities remains with the accompanying member. The member guarantees any debts incurred by their child.
- Liability Insurance extends only to the current members, hence a child of a member is not permitted to be a trip leader, an instructor, or become an officer of the Club. A child of a member may be a driver of a private car on an official Club activity, but as with drivers not authorized by the Department of Risk Management, there will not be any coverage by the State of Wisconsin.
