Personal Gear: Canoe Camping

This is a rough guide to necessary and recommended personal gear for a canoe camping trip. Keep in mind- only bring what you can carry! Ask your trip leader for more information and details.


“Warm When Wet” Clothing

  • Bring non-cotton (wool, polyester, etc) clothing that can be worn in layers
  • Extra Socks
  • Raingear (Pants and Jacket)
  • Footwear (Boots and/or Sandal)
  • Hat and Gloves
  • Sunglasses

Camping Gear

  • Dry bags
    • Make sure gear (especially clothing) is packed to stay dry in the canoes, either in dry containers or double bagged in garbage bags
  • Tent
  • Headlamp or Flashlight
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Sleeping Pad
  • Food kit (Plate or bowl, mug, knife, spoon, fork)
  • Water Bottle(s) (enough to carry at least 2L)

Personal Items

  • Personal Toiletries
  • Camera
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Cash
  • Health Insurance Card
  • Drivers License
