Mountain Biking

Mountain biking trips are usually held on weekends at various state parks within driving distance of Madison. One of the more popular destinations is Kettle Moraine State Forest, Southern Unit.

Equipment

Although it's easier if you have your own equipment, the club does have some bicycles and equipment for club members on club trips. We have mountain bikes and helmets. Repair tools are available to club members for repair of club or personal bikes.

Club Mountain bikes in good condition:

  • Fuji Diamond lite-2    19 in
  • Gary Fischer Sugar 4     Small
  • Gary Fisher Hookooekoo    Small
  • Trek 820    19.5 in
  • K2 1000    Large

Places to go:

"Kettle Moraine State Park, about 40 minutes east of Madison, is the area's most popular destination for mountain bikers.

Nearby trails include Badger Prairie Park in Verona, a county park where the trails are free, or Devil's Head Resort near Merrimac in Sauk County.

Quarry Ridge Mountain Bike Trail opened in June. It has three trails of varying degrees of difficulty. The facility, 2740 Fitchrona Road in Fitchburg, is in the Quarry Ridge Recreational Area just south of Verona Road (U.S. 18-151). The trail has a connection to the adjacent Military Ridge Trail."  -madison.com

Also try Blue Mounds, Governor Dodge State Park, and the Quarry, just off campus behind Whole Foods.
