Directions from Madison to the Peshtigo River

General Info:

The Peshtigo put-in is very close to Hooferland and about 20 minutes from Lakewood, WI. It is a beginner/intermediate run with several Class II-III rapids. The named rapids are First Drop (Class II+), Second Drop (Class II), Third Drop (Class II), Five-foot Falls (Class II+), Horserace Rapids (Class III), and S-Curve (Class II). Directions:

  • Leave Madison by driving HW 151 North (just take East Wash straight on out). Drive about 65 miles on HW 151.
  • Take the second exit on HW 26 NORTH towards Rosendale (be sure not to take the first HW 26 exit, which heads south).Take HW 26 about 25 miles north to HW 41.
  • Take the cloverleaf ramp onto HW 41 North. Take HW 41 about 25 miles north to the HW 47.
  • Take HW 47 into Bonduel (it turns into 117 North). Take 117 4 miles north out of Bonduel until it runs into HW 22 at Cecil.
  • Turn RIGHT (EAST) on HW 22-N. Follow 22 for about half a mile.
  • Look for County Roads H and R and turn LEFT (NORTH). Take County Road R NORTH for about 15 miles until it ends at County Road M.
  • Turn RIGHT (EAST) on M, and drive about 1.5 miles to HW 32.
  • Turn LEFT (NORTH), on HW 32. Take HW 32 North for about 25 miles until the town of Lakewood. In Lakewood look for the gas station (BP?) on the right as you enter town and shortly after the gas station will be County Road F.
  • Turn RIGHT onto County Rd F. Take County F 13 miles north and east until County Road F turns into County C East. County C West is a left turn at this intersection.
  • Turn LEFT onto County C West at the intersection and drive northwest on C about 1 mile. Look for Farm Dam Road, the 1 st right turn. Follow Farm Dam Road and at the fork in the road, go LEFT until you reach the parking area.
