Directions from Madison to the Wolf River,
Section 3

General Info:

Section 3 of the Wolf River is near Langlade, WI. The stretch is about 4 miles long with several Class II rapids and boulder gardens. The 3 named rapids are Boy Scout (Class II), Hanson’s (Class II+), and Gilmore’s Mistake (Class II). ). For more information check the American Whitewater link.

Directions:

  • Leave Madison going NORTH on HW 151 (East Washington Ave). Drive about 65 miles on HW 151.
  • Exit on HW 26 NORTH towards Rosendale (Note: this is the second 26 exit -- be sure not to take the first 26 exit, which heads south). Take HW 26 about 25 miles north to HW 41.
  • Take HW 41 NORTH past Oshkosh and Appleton until you see HW 47 (about 25 miles).
  • Take HW 47 (Richmond St) NORTH and follow it for about 30 miles.
  • Turn LEFT (WEST) onto HW 29 before Bonduel and follow it for 8 miles.
  • Turn RIGHT onto HW 22 and follow it for 2 miles.
  • Turn RIGHT onto HW 55/47 heading NORTH toward the Menominee Reservation and follow it into the reservation. Shortly after Keshena, HW 55 splits from HW 47.
  • Turn RIGHT on HW 55 and follow HW 55 all the way through the Menominee Reservation and into Landglade County.
  • In Langlade County take County Road M LEFT (WEST) (Note: be careful not to take the County Road M in the Menominee Reservation). Follow M about 4 miles until you see a large prairie on the left and a sign for Herb’s Landing.
  • Turn RIGHT at the Herb’s Landing sign and follow the driveway up to the put-in parking area.
